I'm from Texas initially, San Antonio and San Marcos in specific. Growing up there, I remember droughts and steady-voiced weather reporters talking about the level of the aquifer. People were building over the aquifer recharge zone, and still are. Unsustainable.
I remember the numbered days for watering the lawn. I remember being told not to take baths, and shower instead. Tons of little ways to save water. I grew to understand the Fremen from Dune despite never reading the novel.
I didn't want that life, or hundred-degree summers. So I moved to Seattle. I figured if it rained so much, there wouldn't be drought problems.
Now I know it's where the rain goes, and if it's in the right form when it gets there. We need to watch the snow instead. Oregon is about to have a drought because of a lack of snowpack.
As long as I can still take a shower, I'm fine.
